Fire Explorer Program

Chino Valley Fire is proud and honored to be a part of the Explorer Program and to help our youth develop skills that will help them throughout their careers, whether it is in the fire service or another capacity. The program is a division of the Boy Scouts of America and is designed to introduce young men and women (ages 14 to 20) to the fire service as a possible career.

Why Apply to Become an Explorer?

The Explorer position is a volunteer position, but the training and experience received help develop self-confidence, self-discipline, responsibility, teamwork, and leadership skills that last a lifetime.

How to Get Started

Getting started is simple. Chino Valley Fire accepts Explorer Interest Forms all year long. Post 911 holds recruitment testing once per year, during the winter months. If you fill out the Explorer Interest Form, you will be notified via email a few weeks before recruitment takes place.

When Do We Meet?

The Explorers meet every first and third Tuesday of the month (with some exceptions) from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the Chino Valley Fire Training Center.

Requirements

The basic qualifications needed to become an Explorer include passing all portions of the application process, maintaining a 2.5 GPA in each subject in school, being between the ages of 14 and 20, and maintaining a clean driving and police record.

To be accepted into the Explorer program, candidates must pass an oral interview and physical agility test. In addition to this, candidates must pass a health examination conducted annually.

Explorers are required to complete an annual minimum of 20 hours of volunteer work at various special functions or community events. Activities that qualify as special functions are Fire District activities that are in addition to normally scheduled monthly meetings. Explorers are also required to complete a minimum of 8 hours a month of ride-outs once certified.

Fire Explorers are tomorrow's firefighters, and Chino Valley Fire is proud to be a part of shaping their futures in public service.
