Director Ed Gray has been a resident of Chino since 1959. He and his wife, Bernice, were married in 1970. They have 3 children and 4 grandchildren.
Ed is a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1968 to 1970 with a tour of duty in Vietnam.
Ed began a career in law enforcement in 1976 when he joined the Upland Police Department and was appointed as a patrol officer. During his career he achieved the ranks of Detective, Sergeant and Lieutenant. Some of his assignments included being a Field Training Officer, supervising the Narcotics Task Force, Code Enforcement, Community Oriented Policing Team, Detective Bureau Commander, PIO and Internal Affairs. He retired in 2004.
He has an associates of Arts Degree from Chaffey College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Administration from the University of Redlands. He has received certificates in Governance, Administration and Board Members Role in Human Resources from the California Special Districts Association. He also holds numerous professional certificates from the California Commission of Peace Officers Standards and Training, including a Management certificate from the Supervisory Leadership Institute.
In addition to his position as Board of Director for the Fire District, Ed is also an elected Director of the Special District Risk Management Authority. He has served on several Fire District Committees, been liaison to the cities of Chino and Chino Hills, is currently the Chairman of the Citizens Advisory Committee to the California Institution for Men and is a member of the Chino Valley Lions Club.
Director Gray believes that all elected officials should embrace the term "The Noblest Motive is the Public Good" and never allow anything to interfere with doing what is right for the community.
