Firefighter Training
The Training Division is responsible for planning, preparing, and instructing suppression personnel on the latest procedures and techniques for handling the many challenges we face every day.
A Captain is assigned to supervise training. This 40-hour / week position is voluntary and carries a two-year commitment. The Training Captain also acts as the department Safety Officer.
In 2005, an emphasis on safety to protect our personnel was addressed, safety bulletins were issued and web based training was established to address CAL OSHA training mandates. Personnel have received additional training in wildland interface and personal safety, fire shelter deployment, and bump and run exercises. Training has also consisted of Confined Space Awareness, High Rise Training, and responses to hydrogen fuel incidents, Waterous Pump class for Driver/Operators, Personal Protective Equipment, and Breathing Apparatus.
In the remaining 2005 and in 2006, personnel will continue to be trained on personal safety in Rapid Intervention Teams, Rope Assisted Search procedures, Firefighter Down,. Fire Officer and Driver Operator classes.
Personnel with a desire to teach and lead have been asked to join the team of Instructors that will train our department and lead us into the future. We are looking for partnerships with Community College Districts that may present opportunities for funding new and ongoing training.
