Fire ChiefFire Chief Kirk Summers resides in the City of Trabuco Canyon with his wife Michele and two daughters, Kayley and Alyson.
Kirk was born in Glendale, CA. He graduated from Newbury Park High School in Thousand Oaks in 1974 and later graduated from Cal State Long Beach with a Bachelor’s degree in Vocational Education.
Kirk started his Fire Service career with the Los Angeles County Fire Department as a Fire Control Laborer in 1975. At the same time, he worked for Ventura County as a Reserve Firefighter. From 1977 to 1980, Kirk worked for CDF as a Firefighter and Engineer. In 1980, Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) assumed fire protection and CDF employees. While with OCFA, Kirk held the ranks of Engineer, Captain and Battalion Chief. Kirk worked in several specialty assignments including Paramedic, Haz-Mat, Assistant Fire Training Officer, PIO, and as the program manager for the OCFA Haz-Mat Team and the FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Task Force.
While at OCFA, Kirk was also involved in the development of several Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and Command courses and the implementation of county-wide policies and procedures for WMD/Homeland Security response.
Kirk has been a member of the Chino Valley Fire District since Oct. 8, 2007 in the capacity of Deputy Chief of Operations, where he has coordinated day to day field operations and overseen the Training and Safety Section.
