Bio of James (Jim) Espinosa

James Espinosa

Director Jim Espinosa and Barbara, his wife of 41 years, have been Chino residents for over 30 years.    They have three children; Greg, a Lieutenant with Portland Fire Bureau, Jason, a painter, and Jennifer, a registered MSN at Wescom Credit Union.  They are also the proud grandparents of Jacob, Nicole and Ryann Abbey.

The Espinosa family has a fire service history to be very proud of.  Jim started his firefighting career in the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam in 1966, and worked for the City of Long Beach Fire Department for 28. His eldest son Greg is an Arson Investigator with the Portland Fire Department.

Jim was previously on the Fire Board and contributed more than 9 years of valuable service as a Board Member to the Fire District and the Chino Valley Community.  He was first elected to the Fire Board in 1997 for a four-year term, serving as Vice President in 2000 and President in 2001.  In 2001 he was re-elected to his second term, again being honored to serve as Vice President in 2005 as President in 2006 and 2011.

Throughout his tenure as a Board Member, Jim has been actively involved in promoting and supporting Chino Valley Fire both locally and at the State level.  Appointed by Governor Davis, Jim served four years as a member of the State Board of Fire Services.  His service also includes seven years as a Board Member and past President of the Fire Districts Association of California.  Jim has also been an active member of the California Professional Firefighters, the International Association of Firefighters, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and the California Special Districts Association.  He is past President of the Chino Valley Lion’s Club and serves as a commissioner on the City of Chino Community Services Commission and as President of the Chino Youth Boxing Foundation.

Through his knowledge, leadership and dedication, Jim has been instrumental in helping shape the Fire District’s future.
